A REVITALIZING EYELID LIFT FOR PATIENTS OF ASIAN DESCENT

Roughly 50% of the Asian population doesn’t have a natural double eyelid fold. This is a trait that’s indicated by a visible crease or fold in the upper eyelid. This crease is known as the double eyelid.
The Asian Blepharoplasty or double-lid surgery is a form of eyelid lift that rearranges the skin around a patient’s eyes in such a way to give the upper eyelids a crease. The eyes often appear larger as a result of the procedure.
The Asian eyelid surgery is a popular cosmetic surgical procedure among people of Asian descent all over the world.

The double eyelid feature is considered to be aesthetically desirable among many Asian cultures. It makes the eyes appear less tired and more open. Asian eyes differ from other types of eyes in several structural elements like the epicanthal fold, the amount of skin and fat in the eye region.

Various factors have to be taken into account while attempting to create a natural-looking double eyelid. These factors include the patient’s age and gender. The surgeon performing the procedure has to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for incisional or non-incisional Asian Blepharoplasty before they can proceed with the process.

Your doctor will design a surgical plan tailored to your specific needs to help you attain your ideal look. It is important that work with a surgeon who is familiar with the procedure because those who are less skilled may remove too much tissue and adversely affect the final outcome of the surgery.

Surgeons who aren’t particularly well-versed in the procedure frequently “Americanize” or “Europeanize” a patient’s eyelids, resulting in an unnatural look. People of Asian decent have more than one type of eyelid and this differentiates their eyelids from the “Western” or “Occidental” eyelid.

Among the Asians that do possess an eyelid crease, there exists variability in symmetry and definition of the eyelid creases. A crease may appear to be more defined one day and less defined the next. Asian patients seek a single stable eyelid crease that will enhance the appearance of their eyes.

The fold can be designed 2-3mm above the lid (fine crease), 4-6mm(medium crease) or 7-10mm(deep crease) depending on the amount of skin that overlaps the position of the actual crease, variable from 6.5mm to 10mm.

GOOD CANDIDATES FOR THE ASIAN EYELID SURGERY

Potential patients interested in undergoing the Asian Eyelid surgery should be in good general health and have any underlying conditions under control such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Candidates should also stop taking certain medications that are known to cause blood thinning.

THE ASIAN EYELID LIFT SURGERY

Under the non-incisional technique, small openings are made in the skin instead of an incision from where the skin is traditionally removed. The upper eyelid skin is attached to the underlying levator muscle, i.e., responsible for lifting the eyelid with the help of a stitch. The eyelid skin will fold when the eyes are opened.

In the incisional method, an appropriate pattern is drawn on the upper eyelid area which is used to remove additional fat and skin.

The entire procedure takes approximately an hour to be performed, but the duration can vary from patient to patient, especially if it’s coupled with additional surgeries. Your doctor will apply an anesthetic to help ease any discomfort you may experience. You may have some swelling in the treatment area after the surgery, but this is temporary and will subside soon.
